Pro Tools Training and Certification

All of our Pro Tools classes are one-on-one programs, optimizing instruction to the needs of the individual student. As an Avid Learning Partner, we offer official Pro Tools curriculum and student certification by exam. Your trainer is an Avid certified instructor and an expert in Pro Tools software.

Due to COVID-19 outbreak AVID has authorized us to conduct our courses ONLINE.

For ONLINE instruction, the Pro Tools 101 and 201 courses run five days with a progress exam upon completion. The Pro Tools 110 ONLINE course runs five days with the Avid Pro Tools User Certification exam upon completion. The SO110 (Sonnox) course is a three-day ONLINE course with the Avid Certified User: Sonnox Elite exam upon completion. Daily schedule is one-on-one, instructor led, three hours live online each day. We will work out times that are mutually agreeable. Currently, all of our classes are online. Pro Tools 210M and 210P are offered only as three-day, in-person courses at our studio. PT101: Pro Tools Fundamentals I

This course is the basic introduction to Pro Tools, teaching how to complete a Pro Tools project from initial set up to final mix. From the recording of live instruments, MIDI sequencing of software synthesizers, to audio looping, this course will teach you basic Pro Tools skills. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.

PT110: Pro Tools Fundamentals II

This course covers the key concepts and skills needed to operate a Pro Tools system. You will learn to edit, process, mix, and use the essentials of automation, working with audio and MIDI. The course prepares the student for Avid Pro Tools User Certification. We can create a custom class schedule to fit your availability, call for details.

Prerequisite: Pro Tools 101.

PT201: Pro Tools Production I

This course covers the core concepts and skills needed to operate an Avid Pro Tools Ultimate system with HD-series hardware in a professional studio environment. This course builds on the Pro Tools Fundamentals I and II series of courses, providing intermediate and advanced-level Pro Tools concepts and techniques.

Prerequisites: Completion of the PT110 course and passing of the associated certification exam.

Students learn to customize the configuration of Pro Tools HD Native systems to maximize results and improve recording, editing, and mixing workflows. The hands-on exercises provide experience optimizing system resources, configuring I/O, navigating and color-coding sessions, managing session media, using advanced selection and auditioning techniques, working with clip gain, applying advanced automation techniques, creating submixes and applying parallel processing, advanced mixing and finishing techniques for a final mixdown.

This course provides the foundational training for the Avid Certified Operator: Pro Tools Music and Avid Certified Operator: Pro Tools Post certification exams.

Candidates wishing to sit either of these certification exams must have firstly passed the Avid Certified User: Pro Tools certification exam

PT210M: Pro Tools Production II Music

This course covers techniques for working with Pro Tools systems in a professional music production environment and prepares candidates for the Avid Certified Operator: Pro Tools Music certification exam. Candidates wishing to take this certification exam must have firstly passed the Avid Certified User: Pro Tools certification exam.

Prerequisites: Completion of the following courses and passing of the associated certification exams:  PT110, PT201

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Set up MIDI devices for use with Pro Tools
  • Match a session’s tempo to an existing audio performance
  • Control plugins with MIDI controllers
  • Utilize advanced MIDI and audio recording options
  • Share tracks for collaboration using a variety of techniques
  • Use Playlists view and assemble a composite performance
  • Use Dynamic Transport for working with loops
  • Use Beat Detective for a variety of purposes
  • Use advanced MIDI production techniques
  • Create drum patterns using MIDI and enhance drum performances with MIDI
  • Work with Bar|Beat Markers and the Graphic Tempo Editor
  • Add and edit Key Change events
  • Use Cut Time, Insert Time, and clip groups for song arrangement
  • Apply advanced automation techniques including Preview and Punch Preview workflows and automation Trim mode
  • Bounce and render stems and create final bounces in a variety of ways
  • Sit the associated certification exam

PT210P: Pro Tools Production II Post

This course covers techniques for working with Pro Tools in a professional post production environment and prepares candidates for the Avid Certified Operator: Pro Tools | Post certification exam. Candidates wishing to take this certification exam must have firstly passed the Avid Certified User: Pro Tools certification exam.

Prerequisites: Completion of the following courses and passing of the associated certification exams:  PT110, PT201

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

SO110: Sonnox Elite Plugins Fundamentals

This three-day course presents an in-depth look into the most popular plugins from Sonnox, providing the technical insight required to competently use all seven plugins in the collection. Students learn the fundamentals of dynamics, equalization, reverberation, and harmonic processing along with the skill to adjust the plugins to improve the results of their recording, editing, and mixing efforts. The hands-on exercises provide experience setting up plugins, working with Pro Tools sessions for music and post-production applications.

This course provides the training required to prepare for the Avid Certified User: Sonnox Elite certification exam.

Prerequisites: Completion of the PT101 Pro Tools Fundamentals I course with the ability to create sessions, select appropriate session parameters, recall memory locations, navigate tracks and media, use plugins for signal processing, and create a basic mix.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Use the parametric EQ and the different EQ types in the Oxford EQ
  • Understand the constituent functions of the Dynamics: Gate, Expander, Compressor, Limiter, and associated features such as side-chain EQ, dither, and warmth
  • Apply the effect of increasing/decreasing harmonics on a mix and on a single audio track
  • Modify waveform transients, and the effects resulting from enhancing or reducing the attack of sound sources
  • Control loudness, limit signal peaks, and differentiate between intersample peaks and true-peak detection
  • Distinguish the different reverb types, room ambience and long reverbs, as well as the EQ effect on them
  • Understand the behavior of the SuprEsser as a single band dynamic EQ, and also as a regular compressor or as a bass enhancer
  • Be ready to sit the associated certification exam
